Jack Gaunt aka Granddad

Cory's sweet Granddad passed away shortly after his family had their Thanksgiving dinner this past Thursday.  His body had been slowly failing him and he was laying in a bed in their home.  His wife,  all of his children, their spouses, and a few grandchildren were present at the time.  There is no doubt he was surrounded by so much love at the end.  He received his last rites the day he passed away too.  Jack wanted to spend one more Thanksgiving with his family before leaving this world.

The memories of Jack are never ending.  He was a joyful man who loved his family more than you could imagine.  I only knew him for the last 6 years, but I feel honored to have had the chance to get to know him.  He is famous for his AMAZING piano playing, for "Granddad's pancakes," for his glass of Brandy every night, and for his big bear hugs. The first time I met him he gave me a big kiss on the lips....talk about a loving, welcoming human being.

In 2009 Cory and I had the opportunity to spend a few days with Cory's Granddad and Grandma.  The picture below was during our tour through San Francisco.  What a great tour guide Jack was.

We didn't know if we would have another opportunity to see him again, but luckily we got one more chance.  We visited last June and had the chance to introduce our children to him.  These photos will be treasured by our family for a long time!

A great man has left our family and he will be greatly missed.  In honor of him on Thanksgiving night, Cory, Shelly, and I all took a shot of tequila (we didn't have brandy).

We love and miss you so much Granddad.  Keep those saints and angels singing and dancing with your love for music.

  1. What a wonderful man Jack was to so many including myself (1970- 1974). Some of us are posting about him on FB. Thank you for allowing Jack to be apart of our lives. Jack AKA "Mr Gaunt" will be missed.
