Thanksgiving Part 1: Driving there!

(*Note: We took plenty of photos on the trip, however our memory card broke and we no longer have the photos...but I do have some from my friend...so some posts will not have photos)

DAY 1:
This last week we drove all the way to Denver, Colorado to visit my friend Amanda for Thanksgiving.  We decided it was too much money to fly home, and we both love our road trips.  However, roadtrips with a 15 month old are a lot different than when it is just two adults.  I wouldn't say worse, just different :).

We left at 4pm on Monday and set out for our destination: Albuquerque, NM.  It takes somewhere between 6-7 hours to drive there.  We figured if we left at 4pm then, Joey would fall asleep for most of the trip.  Well we quickly learned our first lesson about traveling with Joseph....

He does not sleep in the car!!!

He slept for maybe a total of 30 minutes of the drive to NM.  In fact...at about 8pm he fell asleep and we were thinking...sweet, a quite peaceful trip to NM.  Well about 20 min later a I corrected the car a little too hard and it jerked Joey's head.  He woke up SCREAMING....and nothing we could do would calm  him down.  We tried everything..singing, toys, radio, etc.  Finally he calmed down but was wide awake as we pulled into our hotel at 12:30 am...poor guy was so exhausted.  He went right to sleep once we layed him down in his pack n play.....but we felt so bad for him.

Day 2:
Cory and I had a tough time sleeping that night, so as soon we heard Joey wake up at 7:30 am...we jumped out of bed and went to get breakfast downstairs.  Joey had his first waffle, which he LOVED!  Cory and I are now contemplating buying a waffle maker...we love waffles, so why not?  After we got ready for the day, we packed the car and left the hotel by 9:30am....and set off for Denver!

Joey fell asleep for 1 hour before we had to stop for lunch....wohoo!!!    We stopped at a subway for lunch...however, I had the brilliant idea to purchase the gerber toddler meals that you microwave for 30 secs.   I thought this would be easy to feed him a balanced meal....Lesson #2 was learned!

The Gerber meals are DISGUSTING....and Joey DEFINITELY did not like them.

Poor guy would take like 3 bites and shove it away....they were really gross...I figured if I wouldn't eat them, why should he?  Luckily we had brought other foods and he was able to eat what we were eating.  It is difficult to give them a well balanced meal while traveling, but overall we did well.

After lunch we got back on the road and drove the last half of the trip to Denver.  Joey did pretty well until the last 2 hours....after handing back every toy we brought for him to play with...we decided to introduce him to the portable DVD player.  BEST DECISION we made.....he loved it.  He watched baby einstein and a video of cartoons about "snow."  He loved Barney and this Penguin one.  It kept him happy for over an hour.  Thank goodness....otherwise he would have been crying a lot more.   A 15 month old + no naps = not the most exciting travel partner.

We finally made it to Littleton, which is where Amanda lives.  Joey was so excited to get out of the car.  He immediately went into Amanda's arms and got to meet her three dogs: Titan, Scarlet, and Houston...all German Shephards....they were so sweet to Joseph.  He just adored them.  He would walk up to them with his fist out to be licked.  (I had tons of photos of him with the dogs on my camera...hopefully we can recover them and post later).

Needless to say...Joey ate dinner and went to bed early that night...and he slept for 13 hours without a sound.  Mom and Dad went to bed pretty early that night too!

Stay tuned for the rest of the trip!
