I don't mean for this post to be too negative, but I am so exhausted and thought maybe someone might have some good advice. Our sweet little girl seems to be having some trouble in the late afternoon/early evening/night. All day long she does great. Eats well, sleeps well, has plenty of wake time...but then around 3-5pm she seems to show signs of stomach pain. Sometimes she will wake up after 1 hour of sleep and scream in pain. I can't tell if it is reflux or gas pain. For example, this was our day today:
2pm- feed
3pm-sleep
4pm-wakes up screaming, I check on her and she has vomited a TON. All over, looked like everything I fed her (and this is 2 hours after eating). She then falls back asleep after we clean up and sleeps for another half hour and then wakes up crying.
4:30pm-Feed
5:30pm-Sleep
6:00pm-wakes up in pain screaming, no vomit this time, but a couple big poopy diapers.
7:30pm-Feed
8pm-Sleep
8:30pm- wakes up screaming in pain,
then she was up on and off for several hours, eating one more time until 11:30pm. The poor girl seems to be in pain.
What I have tried:
-Given up Dairy
-Burp a ton and keep upright for awhile
-she is sleeping on an incline
-gas drops
I made a dr appt for tomorrow morning, but I just thought maybe another mom might have been through something similar and would have some advice. As much as I would like some sleep, I feel so bad for her. Can't be fun. Thanks for your help!
Hey Athena,
ReplyDeleteWe had the same problem with Gaby, and I'm pretty sure it's a common issue with infants. So you are not alone in this! I found this forum that offers a lot of advice in this situation, that you might find helpful. I didn't know some of this stuff. With Gaby this lasted a good two months or so. We are praying for you as I know it's very hard to have a screaming baby with no real solutions of how to help her. Here is the site: http://www.easybabylife.com/gassy-baby-screams-in-pain-all-day.html
Keep up the good work Mama of two!
Hey Athena,
ReplyDeleteI don't have any advice for you, but I'm really hoping things get better for you and your little one! The one thing I would suggest is to look on mommy forums and maybe even post the question. For example, you could go to TheBump.com, click on the "Community" tab and it'll take you to their chat boards. You could probably post your question on the 0-3 Months board and get some great advice. I've asked questions about my pregnancy on there and gotten some good advice. Good luck!
Hi Athena! Oh, your poor baby girl. I'm praying the doctor will be able to help! I don't really have any advice, except that if you're not breastfeeding (which I'm thinking you are), you could try switching to soy formula. The cow's milk formula can be hard on their little tummies sometimes. But I'm pretty sure you're nursing so this probably won't help AT ALL! :)
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, Myles used to vomit like that when he was a newborn (although he never really screamed or fussed about it). At random times, he would just throw up everything I had fed him all over the place. I never did figure it out and he seemed to just outgrow it after a few months. Anyway, keep us updated on the dr. says! :) -Sara Murray
thanks for the advice/support! I did go to the dr. today and He suggested to slow her down when she eats...she eats in 10-15 minutes...so i have to stop her every 2-5 minutes and burp...we will see how that works. i will definitely check those forums. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis happened to my Nana with my aunt, they found out that my aunt was lactose intolerant (she outgrew it). I will pray that the doctor will be able to answer your questions. <3 you
ReplyDeleteIf you like natural remedies, you could try gripe water. Also, have you tried flipping her over on her tummy? I know that's a big no-no, but give it a try! Good luck, Mama!
ReplyDeleteI will be praying for you, too! Just keep it up - you're such a good mommy. :) Avila had some of the same problems and I kept pushing for answers. She ended up being diagnosed with reflux and age 4 mo. and put on meds. Night and day! just pray for wisdom that God gives you the right answers.
