As a new mom I have learned that having a child not only brings so much joy to ones life, but it also brings on the need for organization. Now that Joey is 5 weeks old, I am getting to the point where I need to get back into the swing of things.
I found that I was getting overwhelmed with household chores because I would try to do them all at once instead of spreading them throughout the week. To solve this problem, I decided to divide my chores up throughout the week. Now I only have 3 or 4 things to accomplish during the day and then I can take a nap, read, play with Joey, or catch up on any of my old hobbies.
I made my schedule on Sunday, so yesterday was my first day with the schedule. I went to bed thinking I would finish my to do list first thing in the morning and then would have the rest of the day to relax....that was a far off wish....
I went to bed Sunday night and could not fall asleep. I finally started to doze off, but then my alarm went off. I had to get out of bed to get Cory's scrubs out of the dryer. We did not want them to get wrinkled and I started the wash too late, so I had to get up and hang them up so they would be ready for class. Then I went back to bed, but could not fall asleep until 1 am. Then Joey started crying at 3 am....I got up to get him, but he fell back asleep. It took me a half hour to go back to sleep and then he woke up again at 4am.....haha. So I fed him and then went to bed at 5am....but could not fall asleep again :)....so needless to say, I woke up on Monday pretty exhausted.
Monday turned out to be one of those days that gave me no time for a nap, nor was I able to accomplish anything on my to do list until 9pm Monday night haha. The lesson I learned yesterday is that no matter how scheduled you make your life, you must be flexible.
So here I am on Day 2 of scheduling our life....and I am determined to get things done a little earlier. Wish me luck!
Athena, if it brings you any comfort - I was not able to get into any sort of cleaning schedule like that until Jack was like 4 months old. Just enjoy Joey and let yourself heal - you have plenty of time for the other stuff (and it will wait!) The trick is not letting it drive you crazy!! (and believe me, I know that is easier said than done!) Love seeing the pictures!

Yeah, I'm with Amelia. I don't think I started really getting life back into any sort of "nice order" until Clare started sleeping through the night (so I wasn't a zombie!). Poor Jon.... Ha ha!
ReplyDeleteYour schedule reminds me of life growing up, but the only day I can remember is Thursday - change sheets day! = ) Love ya, AMy
